Eyelash Extensions - First Impressions
Today I went and got eyelash extensions for the first time. I had been thinking about getting them done for a while. My natural lashes are ok, but I could never get the hang of falsies, and wanted to look a bit more glam with less makeup. I saw an ad for models, so I decided to take the risk and go for it. How bad could it be? The technician told me that it would take 2.5 hours. Mind you, I can barely stand the time it takes to get a manicure, let alone have someone fidget with my sensitive eyes for that long.
When I arrived, the technician had a look at my natural lashes. I had been told by makeup artists that my lashes had gaps in them, but she said they looked thick and healthy. She asked me what kind of look I wanted, and I told her that falsies usually looked terrible on me, so I'd like something more natural.
I lay on a bed, closed my eyes, and expected a little discomfort. We were chatting away, when suddenly I felt a burning sensation in both my eyes. I let the technician know, and she said that some glue may have entered the eyes! Several disastrous scenarios went through my head, and I wondered how I could endure this pain for the next couple of hours. I tried to make myself tear up to soothe the burning, but only one eye was watering.
A lot of random thoughts came to me whilst enduring the procedure. I took some comfort in the fact that the technician didn't panic, in spite of her lack of experience. I cursed myself for wanting such frivolous things in life, and wondered how all those worked-to-the-max- Instagram girls could spend so much time and effort for the sake of "beauty".
Eventually, the ordeal ended. The technician assured me that the lashes looked fantastic, and asked if I could open my eyes. I had some difficulty opening my right eye, but they felt a lot better. I was so relieved, and just wanted to go home. I looked in the mirror, and yes, they did look good. My eyes looked very sore and red, though.
I felt a lot better after I had something to eat and drink. As soon as I got home, I removed my contact lenses and got out the eye drops. Maybe that was why it was so painful? The lashes looked glamorous yet natural, and she actually did a very good job.
Would I get them again? Probably not. It turns out that you've got to get 'infills' every 3 weeks or so, otherwise you have to get a whole new set- very high-maintenance. I will let you know how they wear over the next three weeks!
